Safety
Bradford White high efficiency, energy saver, atmospheric vent, residential gas Water Heaters feature the Defender Safety System® and offer additional insulation and integral heat traps to reduce stand-by heat loss.
Bradford White made products are designed to be the safest, most reliable flammable vapor ignition resistant system in the industry, meeting all the requirements set forth by the American National Standards Institute. The Defender Safety System features the ScreenLokTechnology flame arrestor. This louvered flame arrestor design increases the speed of incoming combustion air and creates a vector effect inside the combustion chamber when flammable vapors are ignited, preventing flames from traveling back through the flame arrestor and outside the water heater. Other features include a Resettable thermal switch, which is virtually maintenance free.

Bradford White ICON System
Intelligent gas control with proven millivolt powered technology and a built-in piezo igniter. A standard thermopile converts heat energy from the pilot flame into electrical energy to operate the gas valve and microprocessor with no need for external electricity.

Insulation System
Non-CFC foam covers the sides and top of the tank, reducing heat loss. This results in less energy consumption, improved efficiencies, and jacket rigidity.
All Bradford White Water Heaters come with a 2-inch insulation: 1-inch insulation water heater losses heat up to 15% faster when compared to similar 2-inch insulation model.
Optional space heating applications
The 75- and 100-gallon models feature optional ¾” side connections. These are typically reserved for optional space heating applications but the connections can really be used for many other applications as well. For recirculation, use the lower of the two side connections.

For the 30-, 40- and 50-gallon tanks, it is acceptable to recirculate through the drain valve opening or by using a tee and connecting to the cold-water inlet. See these two piping diagrams for examples:
